Domestic and Family Violence - Highly successful five years in homelessness sector working to find housing for women, children, families and individuals. I have worked as part of an intervention service to provide safety. I have a working knowledge of the law in relation to D&FV. It is always my intention to put these skills and knowledge to the best use in the various practitioner roles that I undertake.

Child Protection
THERAPEUTIC SUPPORTS
Mental health,
Autism
Acquired Brain Injury
Previous study has built my counselling knowledge and skills. Employment has built experience.
As a practitioner, I have worked with many individuals to increase positive mental health and wellbeing. I have done this with the client and the worker (self), together steering a course that builds greater client capacity and involvement. Mental health is a serious issue. Reduced mental health often appears as complex understandings of issues or complex patterns of thinking. Simplifying through building other ways of thinking is my therapeutic approach while continuing to work with mental health specialists.

Solutions to issues through listening - acknowledging - responding.
Passionate in practice & care
SOLE PRACTITIONER - PRIVATE
As a sole practitioner, I place an emphasis upon the current knowledge & thinking in the many fields of human service work I have done:

Mental Health
CHILD DEVELOPMENTAL assistance
I want to commence firstly with a brief example of a young person impacted by a failure to meet developmental markers and where I worked with that young person.
EXAMPLE:
A young person, history of major neglect, unable to speak, limited ability to operate conventional body functions. With dietary changes as well as active listening skills and involving him in day to day life skills from his young age, improved not only physical and operational health but also behavioral responses and opened the door to trust on the part of the child. It enabled myself to introduce new things such as hair brushing and personal hygiene care and ultimately language and communication. In relation to communication, some resources had been employed but also in relation to language and to ‘listening’ on my part, I was able to make out words and language that the child was speaking. I will not describe here how it is possible to hear and understand those words and then to build on that, I will simply say that it is very possible for those with the skills and the knowledge and the passion, to do so. Being a Sole Practitioner / Provider gives me the potential for greater control around starting, continuing and completing work with individuals and so the greater potential for increased positive outcomes.

Reunification / Families
Re-unification service (parenting skills) / assessment.
I have worked with parents in assessing their capacity to provide that nurturing and care environment that children need to grow securely. Counselling skills and knowledge have enabled me to tread the line between assessment of ability and the building of skills and confidence for parents to do so, or not.
Re-unification / attachment
I have worked with caregivers in building, re-building attachment with children where that bond has not occurred or has been damaged due to many reasons, not the least of which are the pressures and isolation of this modern environment.
I have worked with other children where meeting key developmental markers has not occurred and developmental concerns have intervened, requiring specialized knowledge and skills to re-establish key developmental learning stages and to build on those.
I have been successful in re-establishing bonds between caregivers and children and I have had success in assisting young people in re-establishing key developmental markers and stages in their lives and building on those.
